The Best Places for Fishing in Lancaster County

Published
07/4/2022

Whether you're an avid angler or want to try fishing for the first time, Lancaster County has ample opportunities for you to spend your day outdoors soaking up the sun and reeling in some catches. Check out this overview of the best places to fish in Lancaster County.

Lake Aldred

Lake Aldred is one of the top fishing lakes in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, but it's not actually a lake. In fact, Lake Aldred is a reservoir created by a series of dams along the Susquehanna River. Take your boat out into the deep waters of Lake Aldred to catch smallmouth bass, panfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish.

When you need a break from your boat, visit the eastern shore of Weise Island, a large island in the center of the lake, to tie up and hang out on the sandy beach.

Muddy Run Recreation Lake

In the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch farmland in southern Lancaster County, you'll find gorgeous scenery, tranquility and Muddy Run Recreation Lake. This 100-acre lake is stocked four times every year with some of Pennsylvania's most popular game fish, including crappies, catfish, bluegills, sunfish and large- and smallmouth bass. Bring your own boat or get a rental to enjoy a day out on the water.

Lake Grubb

Lake Grubb is located on land once used as an iron ore mine. When the mine was abandoned, the ore pit filled with fresh, pure water, creating the 13-acre lake you'll find there today. While no boating or wading is permitted in the lake, the mile-long trail that wraps around it is dotted with shore fishing access areas, giving you prime opportunities to reel in panfish, largemouth bass and other gamefish.

Hammer Creek

Hammer Creek is one of Lititz's best-kept secrets. Local anglers know Hammer Creek as one of the best places in the area to reel in rainbow trout and brown trout. While you fish in this creek, we recommend you practice catch and release with any smaller fish to help maintain the trout population.
